John Lea is a Chartered Professional Geologist whose 24 years of work experience is predominantly in the planning and management of exploration programmes for coal and groundwater, data acquisition and their evaluation. His professional associations with Groundsearch Australia’s current clients provides him with practical experience by working directly with internationally-recognised, technical experts in drilling, geophysical logging, coal analysis, groundwater, geotechnical, environmental and human impact investigations. His wide-ranging experience and continuing professional contacts are invaluable in his current role.

Andrew Newland has over 29 years experience working in the coal industry and in geophysical consulting. He is currently Principal Consultant /Director of Newtuk Consulting Pty Ltd based in Wollongong. His work experience has included :

Newtuk Consulting 1998 to date
Development and application of real time microseismic monitoring for windblast warnings at a number of coal mines in the Newcastle area. Geological mapping in underground coal mines and surface geological mapping in coal mine lease areas with input into the mine planning process.

BHP Engineering 1987 to 1998
Geological consulting to the Mexican coal industry to update their underground and exploration geological methodology, geophysical surveys in both coal and metalliferous mines and exploration areas including in seam seismic borehole and underground surveys, seismic tomography surveys, EM surveys, magnetometer surveys and seismic tomography surveys in Australia (NSW, QLD, SA and NT) and USA.

Kembla Coal and Coke 1974 to 1987
Underground mine geology and exploration at their Wollongong coal mines, new coal mine development, coal exploration in the Gunnedah Basin, coal tender area evaluations, seismic reflection surveys and magnetometer surveys.
